How to interview a potential provider

Payroll is one of a number of bookkeeping and accounting transactions related to the payment of employees for services rendered. Some small businesses feel they can handle this process themselves, however many companies look to outsource their payroll and bookkeeping services because of the complex nature of the calculations required.

When searching for a payroll services provider you may wish to consider the following:

·         Prior to meeting potential payroll services providers make a list of your business's requirements, this will make it easier to choose the service provider that meets your needs;

·         Always ensure the payroll services provider has the necessary level of expertise and resources to be able to meet your requirements and support your operations;

·         Check whether they provide payroll services to any other businesses in your industry, as this may mean they will be familiar with your requirements;

·         Check who will be doing the work and what their qualifications are;

·         Since they will be providing your payroll services you need to ensure they stay up-to-date with your industry's rules and regulations;

·         What fees does the payroll services provider charge?

·         Remember that if you do not require your entire payroll to be outsourced, some payroll services providers can offer to perform only certain elements of your payroll needsthis may reduce your costs;

·         Try to contact at least three payroll services providers, so you can form a picture of the market;
